We're always on the lookout for amazing teachers!
Highlands Music Academy is a growing music school with over 350 students, located in the Highlands of Louisville. Every year we are growing, and with that, is the need for more talented instructors with a passion for teaching.

We take care of the admin work so you can do what you do best: teach! Let us do the heavy lifting so you can focus on your students.
Our Mission
We believe that learning music should be a positive and enjoyable experience for all students. We are committed to creating a warm and welcoming environment where students and parents feel heard, respected, and appreciated.
Our staff and teachers play a critical role in bringing this vision to life.
We seek teachers who are not only skilled musicians, but are also kind, patient, and and good at adapting to their students' needs and personalities. With teachers who share our vision, we ensure that our students receive a high-quality and fulfilling music lesson experience.
Who we're looking for:
Teachers with an undergraduate music degree or years of performance and/or training on their instrument.
Experience teaching private music lessons to children and adults.
Adaptable and flexible with their student's goals and desires.
Comfortable teaching a variety of styles and genres.
Able to maintain a consistent weekly schedule long-term, and maintain a minimum of 2 teaching days per week.
Punctual and timely with the ability to keep lessons running on schedule.
Strong communication skills, proactive, and solution-oriented.
Growth-minded and always seeking to improve their teaching skills, while keeping lessons fun and fresh!
Personable, warm, and focused on making music an enriching and positive experience for students.
Planning to remain in the area and ideally able to commit to this position for at least a few years.
Why teach at Highlands Music Academy?
If you've ever taught privately on your own, you know how hard it can be to grow your own studio.
The list is endless... keeping track of payments, maintaining a space for students to come to, planning recitals, having uncomfortable conversations with parents who are trying to bend your policies, or worse, not pay you. All while trying everything you can to find students... and still falling short, when all you really want to do is share your passion for music with students and make a living.

That's why part of our passion at Highlands Music Academy is in providing a stable and full teaching schedule, where our teachers can focus on being the best at their job, instead of all the other headaches and struggles that come with trying to make it on your own.
The benefits of teaching at our Academy include:
Our focus is on filling your schedule.
We are always working on filling our teacher's schedules. We spend a lot of time and resources to pull in more leads, convert more students, as well as retain students longer! Many of our teachers who have been with us long term are completely full. So give us your availability, and we will work endlessly to fill it. With that in mind, it is sometimes a slow start, but consistency, retention, and patience will pay off! It is important to us that we can help you grow your schedule and substantially supplement your income through teaching.
Your only focus is teaching! We'll handle the rest.
With our dedicated office staff, we take care of all student communications and admin work. We handle inquires, scheduling, payments, policy enforcement, cancellations, advertising, and recitals so that all you have to do is check your calendar and come in when you're scheduled! Talk about simple! No more late texts on a Friday night after a long week of work from a student or parent wanting you to accommodate a special request, trying to collect a payment from a student who no-showed, or trying to keep track of who needs to rescheduled!
Keeping track of your schedule and pay is easy!
No guessing or trying to maintain your own calendar! Every teacher has their own teaching account to view their schedule, see payroll, and submit time-off! Teachers also receive email and text notifications about changes to their schedule and can sync the software calendar with their preferred online calendar of choice!
Paid cancellations and a simplified makeup policy.
If a student is on a teacher's schedule, the teacher is paid no matter if the student gives advanced notice or not! In fact, we have eliminated private make-ups altogether, so no more trying to find times to do makeup lessons, or coming in extra days to accommodate students. The only requirement in exchange for no more private makeups, is a one-hour small group class once a month or every 6 weeks (depending on student load). If no students sign up, there's no class! These group classes are not paid, as they are a replacement for private makeup lessons, in which you were already paid for the lesson. If you can’t make a lesson due to illness or vacation, our goal is to provide a sub for students, or we will reschedule students with you.

Additional information about what our teaching position includes:
Starting teacher pay is $30 per hour or more depending on experience.

This is a contractor position and teachers receive a 1099 by January 31st of the following year.

We are open 48 weeks a year, with 4 weeks off total.
